The Blood of the Beasts made by Georges Franju in 1949. I love films that examine everyday occurrences. Especially the horrifying ones...

Another one to check out in the same vein is Stan Brakhage's "The Act of Seeing with One's Own Eyes"

    A beautiful movie. But I turned away during the actual slaughterhouse scenes.
